Wigwam Start to Finish at Ironman Clearwater

Paul Wigwam ClearwaterRecently I competed in the 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, Florida (70.3 is the total distance completed in the event: 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 run). Throughout 2009 I competed in 3 other 70.3s (Florida, Steelhead and Muskoka) with the goal of qualifying for the Clearwater event. Race day came and it was a great day with good weather and a tremendous sense of excitement amongst the competitors and fans. All three portions of the event went smoothly, however the caliber of competition was significant, inspiring and a bit intimidating. All of these feelings created a great sense of accomplishment as I crossed the finish line and adding to the pride was the nostalgia of having a Wigwam towel draped over my shoulders!
