Me and My Socks

Your socks play a major role in what you're doing out there. Me, my socks need to withstand the brutality I put them through. And they do.

Throughout the winter season I spend a lot of my time trudging through the snow.  My focus and goal: to find new/ice and rock to climb.  This, living in the Canadian Rockies, means a lot of hiking (through a lot of snow I might add).  Over the last few years I've been able to wear and test a lot of outdoor clothing and what i've come up with: thank goodness for good socks.  I don't care what jacket, pants, mitts, sweaters, even long underwear i have on, but what i do care about...are good socks.  (Just for the record, I guess I do sorta care about what I wear, but not as much as my socks.)

This past winter I had the opportunity to wear wigwam socks.  I wore several different styles in fact and will never turn back.  Whether in my touring boots, my ice climbing or competition climbing boots, my approach shoes, and even my crocks, my socks never let me down.

For many years I've worn your typical Walmart buy 5 for 5 bucks socks never really understanding the benefits from "real socks".  I always thought the "expensive" socks weren't worth it.  Too much money for only one pair, what if they blow out? Are they going to last? Will I get my money's worth out of just one pair?  Yes, they will last and yes, if only one pair–money's worth indeed.

Out of the pairs of Wigwam socks I have, there were a select few that carried me through my climbing season.  I found myself picking favorites.  Was that fair?  No, but...that's life i guess.  These elite few stood the test.  14 hour days mega multi pitch climbing, endless hiking, absolutely beating on these socks...and then wearing them again for days to come without rest.  Every day I would look down at my socks, by day 5 thinking that for sure there would be a hole, some ware...but no...nothing, totally intact. Not only did I realize that I could wear a single pair of socks for days on end, but also realized that I didn't have to worry about such a thing.  My socks wicked the dripping sweat from my feet, as if there was no sweat to begin with, they brought me comfort when times were tough.  My socks pretty much became my best friend.  And as they should. I love my Wigwam socks.

The bottom line is, I love my Wigwam socks.
