Robyn Benincasa
Outdoor Trailblazer
Robyn Benincasa discovered adventure racing in 1994 when she entered the Raid Gauloises and was hopelessly hooked. Today she’s competed in more than 35 expedition-length adventure races, with top-five finishes in several of them, including winning EcoChallenge Borneo in 2000. Recently diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both hips, Benincasa underwent hip resurfacing surgery in August 2007. Benincasa captains co-ed adventure racing team Merrell/Zanfel Adventure, and works full time as a firefighter for the City of San Diego. She also runs a corporate teambuilding company called World Class Teams. In addition, Robyn recently founded Project Athena which is a cause that helps women who have overcome traumatic setbacks (like cancer) live their athletic and adventurous dreams through Project Athena Foundation, which Wigwam is proud to be a sponsor of.
